of vitamin K were not affected by fractures in its acute phase. Bone formation markers did not change during the acute phase of hip fracture. Bone resorption markers increased on the third day. Biochemical markers of bone turnover were not affected for at least 48 h after fracture. Therefore, the values of those measurements during the first 48 h after fracture appear to reflect bone metabolism uninfluenced by the hip fracture itself.

Alleviation of IgM monoclonal protein interference in nephelometric assays by sample treatment with reducing agent in a chaotropic salt solution.
In some patients, the presence of monoclonal IgM proteins can cause substantial false elevation in nephelometric assays. A 59-year-old woman with previously unrecognized Waldenström macroglobulinemia had high serum viscosity. Nephelometric analysis revealed elevated measured concentrations of IgG, IgA, and IgM. Pretreatment with a reducing salt solution yielded resolution of cross-linked immuno...
متن کاملA new High Sensitive Functional Nephelometrical Assay for Assaying C- reactive protein in Serum Based on Phosphocholine Interaction
C-reactive protein (CRP) is able to bind phosphocholine in the presence of calcium ions. According to a previous functional property of CRP, we tried to develop an affordable and cheap high sensitive nephelometric CRP assay using soy oil. Serum samples were measured by Nephelometer BNII (Siemens), by mixing the serum with diluted soy oil emulsion (Intralipid ® 20%) and Tris-calcium buffer (PH 7...
متن کاملEvidence of temperature-dependent interference in an immunonephelometric assay by monoclonal IgM.
To the Editor: Interference by monoclonal IgM has been described in the immunonephelometric assays of C-reactive protein, antistreptolysin O, ferritin, and complement C4 (1–6). This report describes the interference by monoclonal IgM (IgMk) in the immunonephelometric assays of apolipoproteins A-I and B, haptoglobin, and immunoglobulins A and G. The patient, a man 54 years of age, was admitted t...
متن کاملA new high-sensitive nephelometric method for assaying serum C-reactive protein based on phosphocholine interaction.
BACKGROUND The measurement of C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations has been of interest as a classical marker of acute phase response; in addition, it has been of particular interest in cardiovascular risk stratification where high-sensitive measurements are necessary. Since CRP is able to bind phospholipids (mainly phosphocholine) in the presence of calcium ions, we explored the possibiliti...
متن کاملProduction of Monoclonal Antibody against Prokaryotically Expressed G1 Protein of Bovine Ephemeral Fever Virus
Epitope-G1 of bovine ephemeral fever virus (BEFV) G glycoprotein has been genetically and antigenically conserved among various isolates of BEFV and only reacts with anti-BEFV neutralising antibodies. Therefore, it is a candidate antigen for development of the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for serological identification bovine ephemeral fever (BEF)-infected animals. The aim of this ...
